We went to Norwich Castle and had a tour of it's Keep. We learnt that it was a medieval palace for the King, but that they don't think he ever stayed there. The Keep had a big dining hall for feasts and he had a bedroom with his own chapel in it. The servants slept on the floor in the basement with the animals. There were soldiers that stayed at the Castle that made sure nobody invaded. The Castle was much bigger then with a moat around it. We saw the toilets which were very different from today. The King would talk to his Knights there about their secret business there. There was a bucket at the bottom of a hole where the poo and wee was collected. Someone was paid to collect it in a bucket. Flint is made from sponges that have gone hard over thousands of years. Flint can be found in Norwich to make buildings with, but it costs a lot to use. WE looked at some buildings around the city, including the market, Guildhall and Tombland. The Guildhall is where the mayor worked and they used to weigh things. People paid their taxes to the mayor. There is a bigger building now where Norwich is run from.    Group 1

We did a tour at Norwich Castle and then we went on a tour around the city and I saw a building made out of thatch and also some flint walls.    Sophie

I learned what they traded. Buildings were made of flint stone. Norwich had a wall. People have lived in Norwich since c650. Norwich had it's own money. The Castle was built in 1067. Norwich is 1370 years old.    Frank

I enjoyed going to the Castle. I enjoyed the trip because it helped me to be an historian.    Katlyn
